Finnish wood trade takes a leap in digitalisation that is unique even in the worldwide scale when Kuutio.fi launches today. Kuutio, the open electronic market place, makes wood trade easier than before for forest owners, wood buyers and other forest sector operators in Finland. The service is developed by Suomen Puukauppa Oy which was founded by all the major actors in the forest sector.
Kuutio brings forest owners, wood buyers and other service providers together in a digital environment. Never before anywhere in the world has the whole sector put their efforts together to create similar service. Kuutio makes the Finnish wood trade work better and makes processes more efficient, bringing a more competitive edge to the whole Finnish forest sector.
For private forest owners, Kuutio brings ease and reliability in decision making when it comes to forestry property. The forest owners can find service providers and wood buyers, and get the right price for their wood.
”Kuutio makes wood trade easier than before. It is the most important meeting place for forest owners and wood buyers in Finland, providing all parties in the wood trade a chance to utilise electronic tools in their business,” said Aku Mäkelä, Managing Director of Suomen Puukauppa Oy.
Easy Entry for Forest Owners
Kuutio paves the way to wood trade especially for those who are not the most at ease when it comes to taking care of their forestry property. Kuutio is targeted to all Finnish forest owners and they can use the service for free.
”We have over 600 000 forest owners in Finland, a big portion of who are not familiar with their forests and feel that managing the property is strange, difficult and distant. We want to encourage forest owners to take care of their forests. Kuutio brings together all forest-related information, services and professionals in an easy and unified way,” said Mäkelä.
Competition Leads to the Right Price
All parties of wood trade benefit from Kuutio because sellers and buyers are able find each other more easily than before. The service utilises public forest details from the Metsäkeskus database and improves the functionality of wood trade.
”Kuutio will improve the transparency and reliability of wood trade. You will always get the right price for wood,” said Mäkelä.
Kuutio is owned half-and-half by forest owners and wood buyers. This ensures the credibility and transparency of operations. Over 90 percent of the actors on the buyer side are already committed to Kuutio.
